Best Creative + Retro Fonts for Designers

Welcome to the first of many new blog posts where I’ll be sharing some of my favourite resources and tools that I use in my design work. I think the creative community thrives on collaboration over competition and I’m all about sharing resources and tips with anyone who wants to learn!

Today’s post is all about sharing some of my favourite retro and quirky fonts with you all! Some of you may have already seen my latest logo design post and so many people just fell in love with fonts & colours so I thought I’d jump on and showcase a collection for you - INCLUDING the font I used in the logo!

Retro fonts are so fun because there’s so much you can do with them! Here’s some fun ideas:

Add a film grain texture to a photo and then layer text with a slight opacity for a fun vintage effect
Offset two layers of the same font to create a 3D / shadow effect
Play with alternate characters, ligatures and different weights to get the most out of each font - I love the touch type tool in Adobe Illustrator - don’t be afraid to move letters around!
Get bold with your colour palette - try adding some strong warm tones into your design
Try a textured background - I love these papers from Wile Mae studio.
