Wedding flowers

My dear friend Hannah and I had the absolute delight of doing the flowers for one of our lovely friends, Sarah. We both have a few flower arranging workshops up our sleeves but with no formal floristry training it was an exciting adventure!

Our work started with a roadtrip to a wholesale florist in the Hunter Valley with our lovely bride-to-be where she ordered the blooms and chose her colours.

We received these flowers on the afternoon before the wedding, beginning our preparations after finishing our day jobs and working well into the night - it's hard work being a florist!

After a few hours of snatched sleep we were up early on the Big Day for the finishing touches. The bridal bouquet below was made by Hannah and beautifully captures the gorgeous spirit of our Sarah in all its lovely colours.

We each made a few bridesmaid bouquets, you can click on each image to see it in greater detail.

Perhaps one of our biggest, and most rewarding challenges on the day was this glorious floral installation. Originally intended to be nestled beneath two trees overlooking the ocean, it was moved into the wet weather backup due to some very heavy rain!

The wooden framework was made by a friend and we foraged the surrounding bushland (in the rain!) for the some extra greenery.

The flowers, which look delicately perched in the corner are in fact well wired, taped and cable-tied in place... it even survived transportation between ceremony and reception venues!

And of course no wedding that I'm a part of is complete without a hand painted sign or two! I made a special custom board with their chosen bible verse, which was used at the ceremony and reception, and now hangs in their beautiful new home. I also worked on a few directional signs and glass card box.

Weddings are just such gorgeous, magical days and it is always with the greatest joy that I participate in them; either as a guest or designer; it's a privilege to be part of something as inexplicably wonderful as love.
